Ocean Spray Classic

Held at Anglesea Golf Club - 3rd March 2008

The renowned Ocean Spray Classic women's golf tournament celebrated its tenth anniversary with an exciting finish, some delighted winners and a very special French guest.

The event took place on Monday 7th March at the Anglesea Golf Club, on Victoria's picturesque Great Ocean Road.

108 players in teams of 3, from 36 clubs from around Victoria, battled a challenging course and changing conditions for the chance to win the 2005 Ocean Spray Classic trophy.

The overall winners were the team from Ringwood Golf Club - Marianne Macartney, Mary Day and Colleen Craigie.

To help celebrate the tournament's ten-year milestone, special guest Gabriel Gat presented the trophies on behalf of Ocean Spray. As well as being a supporter of the Ocean Spray product range, Gabriel is an internationally recognised chef, television and radio presenter, and author of 19 cookbooks.

Gabriel proved a huge hit with the ladies, who lined up for kisses, autographs and tips for making the perfect sponge cake. Gabriel's offer to trade cooking lessons for golf lessons may well see a rapid improvement in his golfing ability.

The Ocean Spray Classic is a unique event conceived by Ocean Spray's Australasian Managing Director, Ray Quinlan, from a desire to co-ordinate an ongoing, successful golf competition for women golfers in Victoria.

The success of the Ocean Spray Classic is testament to the strength of the concept. In each of the tournament's ten years, the Ocean Spray Classic has been fully subscribed with a waiting list. In terms of both competitor numbers and sponsorship dollars, the Ocean Spray Classic is the best-supported women's amateur golf tournament in Australia.
